SAINT VINCENT
ARCHABBEY VOCATIONS

We are a community of Benedictine monks who share a Christ centered life of work and prayer according to the tradition of the Roman Catholic Church and the Monastic Rule of Saint Benedict.

To Follow Christ: Shawn Matthew Anderson’s Vocation Story

Shawn Matthew Anderson was working as a pharmacist at a hospital in State College after obtaining his degree from Duquesne University. He practiced his faith, but it was just part of his routine. One day, after receiving communion at Mass, his eyes fell on a prayer card and he felt a burning sensation in his chest. He knew there was a call to a vocation. “No. I’m not doing this,” was his reaction. He’s now a Benedictine monk and priest at Saint Vincent Archabbey, where he also directs the retreat program, and teaches in the sciences at Saint Vincent College. This is his story.

For more information on vocations, or to arrange a visit fill out this form. The next “Come and See” weekend for men considering a call to monastic life and priesthood is May 23-25, 2025. There will be another “Come and See” in July.
